A landmark research project has begun right across the world that allows people to make a real difference in the fight against cancer. This is no regular donation request: a participant is never asked to open a cheque-book or volunteer a lot of their free time. This project has participants from six out of the seven continents - from Siberia to Antarctica and from California to the far east.

BR@VO Team is one of the Intel-United Devices Research Project 'Think' teams.
The members of this team have downloaded the UD software to process workunits from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford in England and the National Foundation for Cancer Research. This particular team was founded in April 2001 by participants in Worthing, West Sussex, England.
The name of the team has it's roots in the acronym for the area where the founder was working. This is the Business Requirements, Analysis and Testing Group of the Valuation Office Agency. (The A & T in the middle being converted to @)

To participate, you simply download a very small, no cost, non-invasive software program that works like a screensaver: it runs when your computer isn't being used, and processes the research data until you need your machine. Your computer never leaves your desk, and the project never interrupts your usual PC use.

It's Easy and Safe

There is no cost to participate and no impact on your computer use.
The project software cannot detect or transfer anything on your machine but project-specific information.
It just allows your computer to screen molecules that may be developed into drugs to fight cancer.
Each individual computer analyses a few molecules and then sends the results back over the Internet for further research.
The goal is to enlist enough volunteers to provide very rich and thorough results to the University of Oxford for further research.
This project is anticipated to be the largest computational chemistry project ever undertaken and represents a genuine hope to find a better way to fight cancer.

Message for all team members

Recent problems in connecting to the grid main computer have meant a delay in getting new work units. This has reduced our average results per day slightly.
Congratulations to yorkyboy on reaching 3,000 results - he will soon overtake me and move into second place. His points total is already way above mine and he has been on the team a year less than me. It's all down to running the program on multiple systems.
As we do not seem to be able to recruit new members to the team, how about setting up the program on more PCs or laptops, if we have them? Just remember to use the existing member option when registering and using the same member name.
